AI Regulation in South Africa

There is no AI law in South Africa yet

South Africa does not currently have a dedicated law governing artificial intelligence. Businesses and individuals can deploy AI systems today, but the formal regulatory framework is still being developed by government.

We are aware the latest draft was withdrawn

The most recent draft national AI policy was withdrawn by the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, the government department responsible for the country's AI and digital policy. We are following this process closely.

We await the new framework — expected Q1 2027

As currently anticipated, a new AI policy / legal framework is expected to be tabled in the first quarter of 2027. We are preparing for it now rather than waiting for it to land.

We will comply — and adapt what we build

Whatever the future law requires, we will abide by it. Where our current systems or practices need to change to meet the new rules, we will amend them. Responsible, lawful automation is part of how we operate — not an afterthought we add later.
